The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre has won an impressive four awards at the national 2012 Exhibition & Event Association of Australasia’s Awards for Excellence.
Announced last night, the wins include Best Venue Team, Best Safety Initiative and the Richard Geddes Young Achiever award, which went to the Centre’s Event Manager, Jessica Calder.
Meanwhile Centre Chief Executive Ton van Amerongen was presented with the EEAA Trevor Riddell President’s Award for his contribution to the exhibition industry during the 18 years he has been at the helm of the Centre.
Mr van Amerongen said the awards were wonderful recognition of the work of the Centre’s team.
“These awards demonstrate the dedication to professionalism and innovation which we have built our reputation on and my thanks goes to my entire team for their contribution to our success,” Mr van Amerongen said.
Announced in Melbourne last night, the awards come as the Centre prepares to mark 25 years of operation.
Mr van Amerongen said he was particularly proud of Jessica Calder’s win.
“We invest a lot of time in mentoring our younger team members and Jessica is a great asset to the Centre,” he said.
Jessica, 27, manages a string of events at the Centre including the Variety Kids Christmas Party, where she also volunteers to work with disabled children. She is highly regarded by clients and is passionate about the environment, chairing the Centre’s Ecowise committee for the past two years.
The Best Venue Team award was won by the Centre’s Exhibition team, in an acknowledgement of its professionalism and industry leadership.
The team’s work in designing an online traffic management system for the Centre’s exhibition hall loading docks – a first for the Australian events industry – was also recognised with the Best Safety Initiative Award.
Mr van Amerongen said he was honoured to have received the President’s Award. Mr van Amerongen was selected by EEAA President Matthew Pearce for the great professionalism, passion and style he has brought to all aspects of the Centre’s business partnerships in the exhibition and event sector.
