Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA) members have scooped the pool at the prestigious Conde Nast Traveller Reader’s Choice Awards in New York with four named in the top 5 for Oceania.
A total of 11 of the top 15 hotels in the Oceania category recognised at last night’s ceremony were located in Sydney; with the iconic Observatory Hotel ranked first with a score of 91.1.
The Westin, Sydney, Sydney Harbour Marriott and Establishment Hotel, Sydney – also TAA members – were also named in the top five.
Sydney itself was voted world’s number one city at the event.
TAA director Carol Giuseppi said there was no doubt all four winning hotels were of an international standard.
“To be named as a top hotel in the number one city in the world as voted by eight million Conde Nast Traveller readers is a tremendous result,” she said.
“Conde Nast voters are mostly based in North America – an important market for NSW – so to have four TAA hotels in our zone’s top five is a spectacular result which will certainly pay dividends in the future.
“Our congratulations go to all four hotels, their management and staff.”
Ms Giuseppi said the high standards of Sydney hotels would certainly have played a role in the city being named number one in the world over stiff competition from Florence, New York, Paris and Cape Town.
“Cities are rated according to ambience, friendliness, lodging, restaurants, culture, sight-seeing and shopping,” she said.
“Our accommodation hotel management and staff do their utmost to ensure the comfort of their guests and we are seeing the results here.
“It must be particularly pleasing for the Observatory to be voted number one hotel in the number one city in the world.”
