Sydney: The Star, Sydney’s premium events and entertainment destination, is proud to be the official accommodation partner for the Emirates Australian Open for the second consecutive year.
World number nine player, Adam Scott, eight-time Major Champion, Tom Watson, defending champion, Greg Chalmers and former US Open champion Geoff Ogilvy are the first big names to confirm they will be part of the action at this year’s event.
Players and other event representatives will enjoy The Star’s three impressive accommodation offerings – the harbour facing five star business hotel, Astral Tower, the spacious 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments in Astral Residences, and Sydney’s newest five star boutique hotel, The Darling Hotel and Spa. Players, sponsors and VIPs will be welcomed to Sydney and the competition with an official cocktail party at internationally acclaimed nightclub Marquee Sydney at The Star on Tuesday 4 December, ahead of the tournament which runs from 6-9 December at The Lakes Golf Club. Guests will be privy to a Q&A with the championships most coveted players.
The Star is an inspiring setting for business and leisure, with guests able to enjoy an array of entertainment experiences including the 16 room day spa, a luxury retail collection and a world renowned nightclub. The culinary experiences are limitless with some of Sydney and the world’s most celebrated chefs in residence at The Star including David Chang, Stefano Manfredi, Chase Kojima and Teage Ezard.
The Star sits on the edge of Sydney’s harbour foreshore and is just moments from Sydney’s most iconic attractions, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, allowing overseas visitors the ability to experience the expansive magic Sydney has to offer.
The Star’s Managing Director Frederic Luvisutto welcomed the news of the players staying at The Star.
“The Star is pleased to support the Emirates Australian Open which is a key international sports event on the NSW Events Calendar,” he said.
“Sporting events are a great way for The Star to work closely with the team at Destination NSW and the Emirates Australian Open is a perfect opportunity to showcase what Sydney and The Star have to offer,” Mr Luvisutto said.
Golf Australia CEO Stephen Pitt said the field was coming together very well and would have some big attractions for golf fans.
“It’s the pinnacle week in Australian golf and things are continuing to shape up really well for the Championship,” Pitt said.
The 2012 Emirates Australian Open will be played at The Lakes Golf Club from 6-9 December.
