Sofitel Sydney Wentworth was the harbour city’s hottest venue last week, not only hosting the largest-ever World of Accor showcase, with over 1300 delegates, but it was also the hotel of choice for both Australian Liberal leader Tony Abbott and Labor Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer Wayne Swann as the two travel the country spruiking for votes for the upcoming Federal Election.
The Sofitel was definitely the magnet for the country’s movers and shakers and no one was moving or shaking more excitedly than Daisy Melwani, who won the major prize of a new Peugeot 207 XR valued at $25,000.
Hosted by Melissa Doyle and Natalie Barr of morning TV show Sunrise, the event was a huge success, with almost 300 Accor hotels represented from across the Asia Pacific region. Accor added over 50 hotels in the region over the past year so visitors had the chance to learn about these new destinations, as well as sipping wines from Robert Oatley and enjoying an endless array of tasty treats from Sofitel Sydney’s team of chefs.
For the first time, World of Accor included a dedicated session for PCOs in the morning, with over 80 event organisers attending scheduled appointments and literally hundreds of thousands of the dollars worth of business signed up on the day. The event was held at a time when Accor is opening several major conference hotels in the region including Pullman Lijian Resort & Spa, Pullman Bali Legian and Pullman Kuching and launching major Novotel hotels including Novotel Brisbane Airport.is also focused on expanding its regional and suburban network with conference hotels including Novotel Rooty Hill and Mercure Maitland. The overall mood with PCOs was very positive, with many organizing major events after a slow couple of years, and lots of forward bookings into 2011.
Indeed, most attendees commented that 2010 had been a much better year for them and confidence was definitely up for the year ahead.
The global Accor network now stretches to 92 countries and more than 4000 hotels so World of Accor is a great way to find out about all of them in one place. As the largest hotel trade expo series, World of Accor travels to 12 cities throughout the Asia Pacific.
