The Cellar Door Wine Festival, South Australia’s biggest food and wine festival, got even bigger this year with over 9,000 visitors passing through the doors of the Adelaide Convention Centre over the three days (Feb 14-16).
This year, the Festival grew by 30 per cent with a record number of visitors joining a record number of participating wineries and food producers.
More than 170 South Australian wineries and producers offered tastings of thousands of wines and products at the Festival including many new releases not available in retail outlets. Thirty new wineries joined the Festival this year.
The Cellar Door Wine Festival is managed and hosted by the Adelaide Convention Centre (ACC) and forms a key part of the program at the Centre’s official Fringe hub – The Big Slapple.
ACC Chief Executive Alec Gilbert said the Festival continues to go from strength to strength and we’re proud to have established the event as South Australia’s biggest food and wine festival in just four years.
“It’s also the only food and wine festival that’s truly reflective of the diversity of the state’s wine regions and produce with participants coming from fifteen separate regions,” said Mr Gilbert.
“Visitors appreciate the convenience of the Festival which brings together the best SA wine and food under one roof at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
“They also embraced all the new initiatives we launched this year.”
Key successes of this year’s Festival included the expansion of the Festival’s Master Class program with eight separate classes offered over the weekend including three by South Australian MasterChef contestant now Thailand resident Marion Grasby.
Marion was also one of the hosts at the Festival’s inaugural Long Table Lunch along with Glenn Cooper, winemaker Eric Semmler and cheese maker Valerie Henbest.
The inaugural Long Table Lunch was a sell out with guests enjoying shared platters of the best South Australian food and wine, right at the heart of the Festival.
The PIRSA sponsored New Producers’ Area also proved popular and gave ten emerging SA producers an opportunity to reach new markets and create greater awareness for their brand and products.
Plans are already underway to build on the success of the Festival for next year.
Next year’s Festival will be held from February 20th – 22nd, 2015.
