The Melbourne Pavilion is new to the city’s event scene. So new in fact that our bus driver had trouble finding it.
The venue is mostly used for boxing and occasional concerts, so this was quite an eye popper for the AIME delegates and exhibitors.
It is a big space with two main rooms and plus outdoor areas. Although it felt crowded at first once the crowd of over 2000 guests settled into all the spaces available getting around was quite easy.
Notably, there was plenty of food available and it was in generous servings. I think there were three bars (may have been more) so getting a drink was easy as well.
Because the stage audio in the main room was focussed on the dance floor (where it should be) it was easy to converse in the raised bar area and still observe the goings on.
The themeing was all about Melbourne – the entry hall reflecting Chinatown and the main hall the focus was on the shopping/dining precincts. Projections onto the large screens added to the atmosphere.
The floorshow featured the revamped Rat Pack’s Back with dancers and full backing band.
