Applications have opened for the inaugural David Grant Creativity Project, a fellowship for young people in the Australian events industry, in memory of the legendary event producer David Grant.
The fellowship is offering up to $10,000 to a young person (under 30) to pursue a professional development opportunity either in Australia and/or overseas to boost their creative inspiration.
The Project is supported by contributions from Katerina Grant, the Australian Event Awards, the Australian Centre for Event Management, Technical Direction Company, Chameleon Touring Systems, Peter Rix, Jeremy Garling and Yvonne Manettas.
The aim of the Project is to provide a creative injection for the future leaders of the industry to enable them to drive innovation in Australian and worldwide events.
Applicants are required to outline how they intend to use the funds and how the opportunity they have identified will help them to make an outstanding contribution to the events industry.
While the funds can be used for internships and secondments, application documents make it clear that creativity in proposals for use of the funds is encouraged.
Application information can be downloaded from the Australian Event Awards website
Applications will close on 17 July 2017 and the recipient will be announced at the Australian Event Awards, of which David Grant was a judge, on 13 September 2017 on the Sunshine Coast.
David Grant was heralded by many as one of Australia’s greatest ever event producers, known for his ability to make the impossible possible in the creation of high impact public and private events.
Opening his first event management company, David Grant Special Events, in 1987, David Grant’s events were lauded as “mad, bad, stylish, daring, beautiful and simply like no other”.
He produced events at 10 consecutive Summer and Winter Olympic Games, as well as nine Cointreau Balls and, throughout his career, was famous for his innovation and inventiveness which saw him achieve several firsts in the national events industry.
He received over 35 industry awards, including winning MEA’s Australian Event Organiser of the Year 10 times. In 2014 he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Australian Event Awards.
David Grant passed away in December 2015.
