The Australasian business events sector has turned up in force for the Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia’s (EEAA) 2016 finale events. The centrepiece is the EEAA 2016 Conference and Awards for Excellence.
Held as official pre-opening test events at the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), attendees included organisers, association organisers, venue managers and suppliers from across Australia and New Zealand.
EEAA Chief Executive, Joyce DiMascio, said the 2016 Conference program included commentators and experts from both inside and outside the industry who contributed their knowledge and ideas for the whole community to benefit and grow.
“Globally, nationally and locally major shifts are occurring and we have heard about these in the conversations on and off stage kicked off by international expert, Steve Monnington.” Ms DiMascio said.
“We have spoken over many years about the changes impacting the way people communicate – these changes are now at the heart of the way expos and events are delivered. But change will be a constant as both the macro and micro influences on the social and business environments continue to play out.” Ms DiMascio said.
In his opening address, new EEAA President, Spiro Anemogiannis, said that the conference program included topics from global industry mergers and acquisitions, to an economic overview with the ever-present topics of marketing, data, digital trends and will finish up with case studies on trade and consumer shows with association perspectives.
“This year’s conference is one our best attended in recent times and I think that is testament to not only the content but to all the speakers involved.” Mr Anemogiannis said.
“We are hearing from 16 presenters and panellists that include international keynote speaker, Steve Monnington, Managing Director, Mayfield Strategies; Chief economist at HSBC, Paul Bloxham; Ian Macfarlane, Managing Consultant, Strategetic Consulting; and Google’s Head of Business Marketing, Richard Flanagan.”
Mr Anemogiannis also commented on the strong position of the Association and the plans for 2017.
“2016 has been a good year for the EEAA. We have delivered our core work and also explored some opportunities to widen the remit of the EEAA.”
“This year, we have continued to attract new members and today I am pleased to announce that Airbnb is joining EEAA as our newest Platinum Partner. We also welcome our most recent new members – The Event Crew, Unimet Security and Entegy. Tourism Australia also partnered with EEAA to become a Platinum Partner of the Young Stars Program.”
“Our challenge is to redefine the image of our industry, contemporise the language around our sector and establish new partnerships within the key influencers of marketing spend.”
“We would also like to further grow this Association and make it the peak body for the sector by expanding our footprint into the wider events space.” Mr Anemogiannis said.
A new EEAA website was also presented to Members ahead of the Conference, Ms DiMascio said, giving Members the opportunity to learn about the new features and register.
Ms DiMascio thanked the ICC Sydney team for the opportunity to hold the Association’s end-of-year events as pre-opening test events at the new venue.
“Over two days, we have the privilege of being among the first to experience the new centre ahead of its official opening in just a few weeks. We have watched the site transform, and here we are now in a new facility within a vibrant renewed precinct”
