Last weekend Trevor Connell took the opportunity to check out the Hotel Urban in St Kilda.
The Hotel Urban is located on Fitzroy St among lots of restaurants and entertainment venues. In fact, from the street it just looks like another restaurant, as the hotel reception desk is nestled inside behind their restaurant, coffee shop and bar.
The hotel has just 80 rooms, so it is not unusual for client to book out the entire hotel, including the meeting room, restaurant and bar.
Access is excellent. With a tram stop almost at the front door the city is only 15 – 20 mins away, as is South Melbourne. Judging by the footy crowd (St Kilda fans) on a tram I was on you can go right to the MCG or get off at Spencer St station and walk over to Docklands Stadium. St Kilda beach is a five minute walk away (and free access to St Kilda Sea Baths is included). On-site parking is also available.
I stayed in a standard room that has plenty of space for two and if you need to catch up on any work the room has a good sized desk and free wireless internet access.
The other room styles are what set the Urban off as the chic place to stay – ranging from the Urban Deluxe Spa Suite the famous Round Room (check it out online).
In addition to the standard classroom, theatre, u-shape, etc. layouts for the meeting room, all the furniture can be removed for cocktails or the staff can throw in a whole bunch of bean bags for your delegates to chill out on or they can get competitive in the installed wii or karaoke.
To find out more about the Urban Hotel I talked to General Manager Gareth Rowlands and Events and Conference Manager Gracey Patrick
