The highlight for the Darwin contingent at last week’s MEA conference was the announcement that the 2013 National Conference will be held in Darwin.
Malu Barrios, General Manager of the Darwin Convention Centre said the MEA win was a considerable achievement for Darwin which previously hosted the event in 1997, but is a truly memorable “first” for the Darwin Convention Centre and will make an exciting highlight in what will be the Centre’s fifth year.
“The event will not only bring an estimated 600 delegates to Darwin but will also provide the ideal opportunity to focus the attention of the industry and its media on the scope and flexibility of Darwin as a unique business events destination.
“This is undoubtedly the most experienced and relevant audience of industry professionals for many of whom, a visit to Darwin could well be a first-time experience,” said Ms Barrios.
Ms Barrios said the winning bid reflected the close professional relationship between the Centre, and the Northern Territory Convention Bureau and the importance that the local industry gives business events.
The announcement was made by the Chair of the local host committee, Carrie Altamura (BDM, Darwin Convention Centre). The very warm announcement featured a slide show of Top End features accompanied by music from Darwin musicians eMDee and a fire display by Howard and Sons.
