Australia’s Favourite Event allows every Australian to cast a vote for the best public event that they attended between July 2012 June 2013. As examples, music festivals, sporting, community and cultural events all eligible.
Nominations for the award opened last week. Events across the country such as Clipsal 500 Adelaide, Bluesfest Byron Bay, Soundwave Music Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Festival of Sails, Mumbrella360, RSPCA ACT Million Paws Walk, Illawarra Folk Festival, Irish Woolfest Boorowa, Dampier Beachside Markets and Taste of Sydney stood up to compete for votes for the title of Australia’s Favourite Event.
Public voting opened for Australia’s Favourite Event yesterday with over 7500 votes being cast for 24 events. Voting is free and open to anyone in Australia at www.eventawards.com.au. Nominations will stay open till Monday 4th November.
In 2010, Jessica Watson’s Homecoming was awarded the top prize. Who can forget the delightful young sailor and her triumphant return to Sydney Harbour, and the importance of this great event. “I was so overwhelmed when I sailed into Sydney Harbour…It was a day I will treasure for the rest of my life and clearly a lot of other people must have felt the same way,” Watson said.
The top ten finalists will be announced on Monday 4th November and voting continues. The winner for Australia’s Favourite Event will be announced at the 2013 Australian Event Awards Industry Night of Nights, to be held at Doltone House, Hyde Park in Sydney’s CBD on November 19th.
